Description
Also known as Lag Bolts, Lag Screws come in longer lengths than wood screws and are easy to tighten with a wrench.
Galvanized steel is steel that has been coated with a thin layer of zinc. This zinc layer reacts with oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air to form zinc carbonate, which protects the underlying steel from corrosion. As a result, galvanized steel is commonly used in applications requiring rust resistance, and can be visually identified by the crystallization patterning on the surface. Galvanized steel can be welded, however, one must exercise caution around the resulting zinc fumes. Galvanized steel is suitable for high-temperature applications of up to 392 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Use at temperatures above this level will result in peeling of the zinc at the intermetallic layer.
Hex head fasteners can be driven with simple wrenches, and require minimal clearance above the fastener because they can be driven or loosened from the side.
