Description

C544 Phosphor Bronze is a Copper alloy with tin as the principal alloying material rather than zinc. When polished, bronze develops a beautiful golden finish. A typical 80-20 bronze would have an approximate density of 0.315 lb/in3 and have a melting point of approx. 1868F (1020C). Ductility decreases rapidly with the increase of tin in the alloy mix. Phosphor bronze has a tin content of 1.25 to 10 percent, and possesses excellent cold-working and mechanical properties. Multiple wire strands, cables and wire ropes are actually machines. Each component wire and strand physically adjusts to contribute to the cable or wire ropes load bearing capacity. Generally the more wires in a strand, cable or wire rope the more flexible it behaves. A typical Loos and Co. product is 7x19 cable. In this cable there are seven strands of nineteen wires each, (7x19=133). There are 133 wires working together as a machine in this particular construction.
